Qualifying learner will have a firm foundation of knowledge of key issues and practices in the water sector, and entry skills and knowledge relating to water services. This includes water treatment, water reticulation, wastewater reticulation, wastewater treatment, community water and sanitation. Learners with this Qualification will also gain an introductory knowledge of the water sector, enabling them to understand the nature of water issues in South Africa.
WATER RETICULATION SERVICES NQF 2

Qualification provides knowledge and skills in water services as team leader attending to the construction and operations of a water reticulation system. Apply health and safety legislation in the workplace, plan work tasks, read and interpret maps and drawings, identify pipes, associated fittings, valves, and meters in a water reticulation system and maintain, install, and operate a water reticulation system.
WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS OPERATION NQF 2

This qualification provides workplace-based needs of water and wastewater process operators. Competency in applying fundamental knowledge and understanding of current legislation specific to water and wastewater treatment and Operating processes at a water and wastewater treatment works. This qualification will provide learners with a basic knowledge and understanding of the water and wastewater treatment works.

Qualifying learners can communicate in a water and wastewater context. Demonstrate knowledge of the relevant legislative requirements in a water and wastewater context. Be able to partake in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater reticulation systems. The competencies developed will enable the learner to attend to the maintenance, operation and construction of water and wastewater reticulation systems.

Provide learner with the knowledge and skills in water and wastewater reticulation services, to attend to the operations, maintenance, and construction of reticulation systems. Qualifying learners can demonstrate communication skills, knowledge of the current and relevant occupational health and safety legislation. Work in a team operating and maintaining water and wastewater reticulation systems.
WATER AND WASTEWATER PROCESS CONTROL NQF 3

Prepare learners to function independently on water or wastewater treatment works. To operate and control specific processes at a water or wastewater treatment works within the context of legislation and work policies and procedures. Make decisions relating to the amount of chemicals dosed, volumes of water treated and pumped. This will enhance productivity within the water sector, improve the health of communities and the water environment.

WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS CONTROL SUPERVISION NQF 4

Qualifying learners will be able to operate and control a waterworks or/and wastewater works within the context of legislation and work policies and procedures. This qualification forms the foundation for advancement within water sector with core competencies to progress to a higher level. Operate the works, demonstrate knowledge of hydraulics, valves, pumps and motors, relevant national laws, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to water or wastewater treatment.

COMMUNITY WATER, HEALTH AND SANITATION MONITORING NQF 3

Qualifying learners can ensure policy compliance regarding principles of Water, Health and Hygiene. Monitor the Operation and Maintenance activities of sanitation services. Supervise teams in the workplace. Contribute towards improved practices within communities and their environment as well eradicating the backlogs and future needs in the sector.

Understanding of environmental legislation and competence to conduct basic community and environmental needs analysis. Qualifying learners will therefore be able to explain and promote environmental health and sanitation. Work effectively with local communities. Collect and record data.
